Persona AI Announces Brian Davis as Head of Global Manufacturing
Building one humanoid is a different problem to building a thousand
Most of the attention in humanoid robotics goes to what a robot can do. The harder question (and the one that decides which companies are still here in five years), is how many of them you can build and how consistently. To answer that question, Brian Davis has joined Persona as head of global manufacturing
Brian Davis has joined Persona as head of global manufacturing to answer that question.
Thirty years in operations, most recently at Amazon Robotics and before that at Dell Technologies. His remit at both covered manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, quality and real estate, and both businesses grew production volumes dramatically over a four year period while he was there. Amazon Robotics is the closest thing this industry has to a precedent for building robots in quantity. Very few people have done it and fewer still have done it twice.
The agreements with HD Hyundai and POSCO, and the pilot in Louisiana, all commit us to putting hardware in front of customers on a schedule. A prototype that works is not the same as a hundred units that work identically, arrive on time and can be serviced in the field. As Brian puts it, building industrially rated humanoids and deployable AI is only one part of the problem. Producing them at scale needs systematic supply chain management, strict quality control, and a playbook for safe high volume manufacturing.
